What Can IV Therapy Treat?

IV therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of health conditions. Patients come to us at the KHWCT to treat a number of disorders and health challenges ranging from fatigue to intestinal malabsorption, surgical wound healing, athletic performance enhancement, cold and flu, neuropathy and more. Intravenous vitamin (IV) therapy is simple, fast, and causes few or no side effects, making it an ideal treatment option in many situations.

At KHWCT, we understand the importance of a proper and thorough evaluation. As such, and after taking a complete history of your health status, we first run a series of diagnostic tests to assisting us in determining the underlying cause of your condition. Once we have developed a working diagnostic picture, we proceed to the therapy itself, which involves infusing vitamins, minerals, and amino acids directly into the body through an intravenous drip. The patient’s condition largely determines the nutrients that are included in the infusion, but some IV therapy components that are commonly used for a variety of conditions include:

  • High dose Vitamin C
  • IV MSM
  • Myers’ Cocktail
  • IV Glutathione
  • IV Magnesium Therapy

Once treatment has begun, the ongoing formulation of the nutrient complexes used for a patient’s care will be evaluated and, if necessary, continued or changed to suit the patient’s needs throughout the treatment process. Below you will find a list of the conditions most commonly seen in our office, as well as the approach taken to effectively treat each one.

Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the most common patient health complaints, often occurring in conjunction with depression and stress. Many patients complain about being exhausted after a long day at work, or feel sluggish in the morning even after a good night’s sleep; they wake up feeling exhausted even before the day begins. There are many causes of fatigue, including bacterial and viral infections such as the flu. Poor nutrition is another factor: it is well known that if you eat an excess of simple carbohydrates, such as sugary sweets that are high in fructose-laden corn syrup, you will often experience a quick rise in energy followed by a sudden, energy-draining crash. Additionally, vitamin deficiencies, and particularly a lack of B vitamins, can cause fatigue as well, and we can add hormonal influences to this list, especially those found in PMS and in cases of adrenal insufficiency. Other underlying chronic disease states, such as inflammatory bowel disease, underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), and connective tissue disorders may also be responsible for your fatigue.

The following types of IV therapy have been shown to be helpful in treating fatigue:

  • Vitamin B-12 (via an intramuscular route)
  • High-Dose IV Vitamin C
  • Myers' Cocktail

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) affects millions of Americans, profoundly depleting their quality of life. When you have CFS, you always feel terribly tired, but there does not seem to be any obvious medical cause. As such, CFS is a diagnosis of exclusion when other possible causes have been ruled out. An important breakthrough in diagnosis and treatment of this debilitating condition was discovered when a significant percentage of CFS patients demonstrated evidence of infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the same virus that causes mononucleosis. Notwithstanding, it appears that many CFS patients have no detectable EBV in their system, and thus the virus cannot be blamed entirely for the condition. The good news is that the same blend of nutrients that are used to treat common fatigue can be used as well in the treatment of CFS, and many patients report improvement using this approach.

Athletic Performance Enhancement

Many athletes use IV therapy to enhance their performance, as vitamins and minerals are essential to an efficiently functioning metabolism.  IV therapy plays a vital and beneficial role in aiding the body. Common types of IV therapy components used to enhance athletic performance include zinc, vitamin C, B-complex and magnesium.

Cold and Flu

A depressed immune system can cause an occasional cold or flu.  If you feel ill and tend to experience several colds each year, IV therapy can be useful in boosting your immunity and warding off these undue events. Some of the most common IV therapy components used for the treatment of cold and flu include Vitamin C and Myers' Cocktail.

Intestinal Malabsorption

Intestinal malabsorption is a condition that occurs when the digestive tract is unable to properly absorb the nutrients found in the foods we eat. This can then lead to a host of nutritional deficiencies. Some of the most common causes of intestinal malabsorption include IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and celiac disease.  Common IV nutrient therapy components used for the treatment of intestinal malabsorption include:

  • IV amino acids
  • IV MSM
  • IV Glutathione
  • Myers’ cocktail

Surgical Wound Healing Postoperatively

Fast and complete healing is crucial for patients who have undergone cosmetic or bariatric surgery. To achieve this result, patients need a healthy and properly functioning immune system. IV therapy is a great way to administer proper levels of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are indispensable to a patient’s postoperative healing process. Common IV therapy component options for treating post-operative patients include the administration IV glutathione, Myers’ cocktail, and vitamin C.

Other Conditions

In addition to all of the conditions listed above, IV therapy can be used to revitalize your health organically and naturally. Whether you currently suffer from one of the conditions listed above, or are dealing with a health concern that has failed to respond to other more traditional approaches, we strongly encourage you to consider IV therapy as a viable option. Its safety and effectiveness has been proven time and again through both clinical trials and by the reports of hundreds of satisfied patients.
